  • Trouble in LSx paradise...

Well diving the car while exciting, was not problem free today. On my way to work where I am now, the car started running like shit, and stalled, clueless I started it backup and it went for a while, I lost the tach, then it died again. It didnt want to restart but when it did it surged a little bit and I was able to get it to work, all this time it never through a code, till I was a football throw away from the parking lot....

    Code P0336, crank angle sensor.

I assume my passenger side header cooked the wires.... Is it safe to just extend these or will a whole new harness be necessary?

Also, its semi drivable, should I try and make the 15min drive home tonight, or have it towed?

Well, I got to my car, started it up, and drove it home. Not a single issue. I really curious as to what the issue is, it was fairly dark in the parking lot and didnt feel like touching it when I got home, Ill check it in the morning after class I guess.

Checked it this morning, no burnt wires and the nearest is the o2 sensor and its several inches away, started right up and I drove it to class where im posting this, I didnt have an issue the whole way here. Fairly confused at this point.

Did you delete out anything like EGR, AIR, EVAP? I'm not sure what is on the LSx compared to the LTx but if it's something that only kicks in once the car is warmed up and only at a certain time (IE, when the car is warmed up and you're cruising above 3000 rpm) if it's not tuned out maybe it'd cause an issue? I don't know - stab in the dark.

AIR, EGR, and EVAP, are all deleted from the computer and the car. The crankshaft position sensor shouldnt be affected by any of that and should be running all of the time, im quite confused, I hate to tear it apart for nothing, but I hate to be in the middle of no where when/if it happens again.

Did you check the connection to the CPS?

We had an issue at work with an engine where the rail pressure reading spiked to 250 bar, so the computer demanded like 7 bar (instead of ~150), and the engine would start - then stall.

We checked the fuel pressure sensor at the rail (it's DI) and it all looked good - come to find out, the actual connection had somehow gotten ****ed up...we replaced it, but it still was shoddy due to the heat enclosed under the top cover.

I didnt, but its a pain to get to, got to get the car in the air and probably remove the starter to get to it. But its on the list.
