  • LT1 Tune up

My friend has a 97 SS and needs to do a tune up. Could use some advice on the best way to get to the plugs. I haven't looked at it yet but he said the back ones look really hard to get to. Any help would be greatly appreciated, Thanks.

I believe that most people go at the back one or two plugs on the passenger side from underneath the car. Also, get on him to come on here and make his own posts

does he have headers or stock manifolds? Unless you have really small hands they are all kind of hard to get to...the last plug on the passenger side is almost impossible to access from the top

tell him consider changing to headers while he is at it

there really are no "tricks," just takes some common sense. having a variety of tools is the key to making it easy. with a range of sockets, breaker bars, wrenches, extensions and a universal joint it wont be that bad.

He is going to want to take the starter off and the Alt. to have better access.

With stock manifolds you may even want to remove the ypipe for better access. While your down there, I'd change the O2's with delco units if you have the money while you swap plugs. I found that the wires can be a pain to route, and highly recommend swapping those out. Mine were toast at 70K when I swapped them for MSD wires.
