  • Electric vs. Mechanical Gauges

    I have a question.

I'm looking at Boost gauges, and I've heard that the mechanical ones are better...they also cost less. A lot less.

    Like $70 vs. $200...

Which one would you recommend and why?

I like the price of the mechanical gauge way more...

I was talking to an AM customer service person (which they have awesome customer service), and he said the main advantage of an electric gauge is that you don't have hot fluids and what not coming into the cabin, cause the electric one has a sending unit. I've heard the mechanical boost gauges are more responsive to boost changes...

Was thinking of doing a Boost/Vac gauge, so either 6103 or 6107.

            XX03 goes to 20psi and XX07 goes to 30.

For a boost/vac guage I would go mechanical all the way....everything else electrical.

                Alright, sounds like a plan.

I think the only other gauge I'll put in the car is a Wideband...eventually...

I would go mechanical for boost and electric for everything else (especially fuel pressure if you want it inside the cabin)

mechanical is always gunna be more accurate. I think all you have to do is run a vaccume line into the cabin so it shouldent be too bad. electric is fine for things that don't change rapidly. fuel pressure is ok electric if you have a street car. but for a race car especialy with n20 or other f/i fuel pressure can drop quick and f things up.

                          Cool.

Those two are Boost/Vac gauges, should I get a Boost/Vac or one that just reads boost?

I read somewhere that Boost/Vac gauges are really meant for turbos and that superchargers usually run a boost-only gauge (though the boost/vac gauge works fine). The stock SS gauge is a boost/vac gauge.
