need help

My moms 97 Taurus. How do I go about disconnecting the 12v from the starter? Its just hanging there by the red 12v and that smaller black wire that can be seen. Still need to pick up a new starter.

It looks like there might be something under that red cap, a stud and nut or a bolt or something holding that cable on.

good call. now what about the smaller black wire.. it seems to be kinda clipped in..

yeah remove the red cover. the black wire has a little tab on it to release it in the middle

Thank you all. The swap went smooth. I did have to splice the ground from the new starter (bosch) to the original ground plug. Car starts and runs!
