  • Security Light

    Hello,
awhile ago I was having problems with my ignition key and it would not start the car. I left the key in the ignition and it eventually started up. Since then though the security light is on. Is there anyway of resetting it or do I need to get the computer reset to clear the code?? any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks,
    Jack

well you have vats so odds are your key clinder is on its way out or your bcm (its common) easiest cheapest way to fix it is use a meter to find out the resistance on the key chip, then cut the vats wire and tie the resistor inbetween the two going back to the bcm (usally 2 small white inside of a rubber coating, usually black or sometimes orange).

your security light is telling you theres a problem, soon your car wont start, leaving the ignition on for 10minutes resets the system. if youd like to bypass that the anti theft relay is on the right side of the glove box on the oppisote side (kinda have to reach around) jump the relay with a peice of wire, purple to yellow and start it. thats a last resort though, or if you just dont want to wait 10min.

i replace fbody bcm's all the time. mines due for one, my security alarm portion acts up, so yeah my cost is just under 200 bucks for one its gunna suck lol
