  • Power very unstable in car.

Well i am just about ready to spray, but I am having a serious electrical problem with my car.

i started the car up once wiring everything up only to notice that my gauges were acting up. (I had an oil temp gauge that had wiring untouched and it was fluctuating all over the place). I have a nitrous gauge (progressive, a/f shutoff, safety stuff) and it just keeps powering off and on.

Upon further investigation I noticed my lights and headlights were diming on and off (this doesnt really bother me, but indicates something going on with power).

I wired up my gauge to have it's own ground and tried other power supplies straight from the fuse box with no avail. Some sources seem to be a bit better and it will last longer without resetting.

    Aftermarket electronics:
    lc-1 wb o2, oil temp gauge, amp+subs
3 nitrous relays, trick performance black series gauge
(i unhooked everything and am still having fluctuations)

Just put in a new battery as recommended by the other post, this didnt solve the issue (but i needed a new battery anyways)

What should I do to solve this? I am worried i messed something up when wiring because i did move the pcm, the fuseboxes under the hood, and did route quite a few wires.

At the same time, I don't think i wired anything wrong, seems to be something on the car.

Do i have something loose? Is my alternator shot? Bad grounds? I will be checking all this tomorrow but does anyone have any ideas?

That sounds very indicative of a grounding issue or the 4-way bridge rectifier taking a crap in your alternator.

Mine did the same kinda thing before my alternator went, and it went fast, and when driving at night, just barely got home and the headlights quit.

I agree with James. Sounds like bad diodes in the Alt. Could also be a ground problem. Especially check the body ground.

How exactly do you test the grounds and alternator?
