  • Won't start!!!! need help

Well, should have known something would go wrong.

I just bought this car about a month ago.
I went up to the gas station yesterday and filled up with gas for the weekend. Ran great, didn't get on it or anything. Came right back home and put the car in the garage Went to take it out for a ride seeing it's nice out and the car will not start. I turn the key and you can hear the fuel pump run. Took a plug wire off a plug while a buddy checked for spark as I turned it over. No spark!!!

Now I know nothing about the LT1 motor as my last bird was a 6 and new so I never had to work on it.

Is there a way to check if I have power going to the box in front of the motor where all the plug wires are coming out of. The box looks new and I think I remember the guy saying it was.

I'm going out now to take some pictures of the wiring and box so maybe someone can help me.
I'm lost when it comes to this kind of work

Here a a few pictures of the wiring to the box.
The box with the plug wires coming out of it, the wire harness plugged into the box and then the wire harness ontop of the motor.

Is there a wire I check for power to the box?

check coil to see if your getting spark if not from there then that could be the prob if you have spark at the coil but not # 1 ouch could be $$ unlesds you can do it your self plus the cost of the opti if that is what it is.

I think you have a vented opti those tend to last alot longer. I've got 130,000 on mine. How much juice is the battery holding? Check the spark from the coil first. I'm not sure but I think your car will have a code if the opti goes poop.

                  Okay, what's an opti?

I have no spark from the coil. So I removed it and will get a new one tomorrow.

                  Or have it checked.

The opti is that fella under the water pump with all the spark plug wires coming out of it. They tend to poop out on our cars frequently usually due to moisture. I've never had to replace one, so I'm not an expert on them. See what they say about your coil. Hopefully thats all it is. Otherwise it can be a mess to replace the opti from what I'm told.

Thanks, that's what I thought. I had NO spark off the coil.
$69 at auto zone. I'll try that first.

WOW!!! Thats an expensive fella. I don't think an MSD is much more. I wonder if they are selling that with an ignition module attached? Either way have them check it first. You don't want to start replacing random parts.

My vote would be the Opti also. A buddy of mine replaced his in March and had to replace it again in April of last year. Horrible design by GM!

If you're replacing a coil I'd go with Accel or MSD. 10x better then the Duralast crap you'll get at Autozone. You can get an Accel coil for $38.95 and MSD Coil for $45.60 from Summit. You can also get an MSD distributor (Opti) for $154.60.
