  • Why is my car studdering/missing?

Ok, this just started happening like a couple months ago. Whenever it starts raining enough thats theres pockets of water on the ground my car will start to sputter and die. It never actually stalls but if i try to gun it, the car just comes in and out of power making it surge if that makes sense.

If I get a bad enough bogg the check engine light comes on but will turn off by itself whenever it dries out. By whatever chance its alway been night when this happens so I can never take it to get scanned by autozone when it happens.

Im guessing I have to have a short or open somewhere, or the optispark is getting wet.

    any ideas??

I'll blame the opti right off the bat. Ive had two LT1s and they have always given me problems.

My brother's LT1 trans am has trouble starting on "dewy" mornings as the water condenses on the opti. If its having trouble after running for a bit, it might be the engine heat evaporating some water which then settles in the opti.

On my old 95 camaro, I had similar issues which ended up bein tied to a corroded connector on the opti.

well looks like a might as well replace the opti when i do the waterpump AGAIN this summer. Any clue if I have to replace the whole opti or can just get away with a cap and rotor set?

Fuel Pump - or at least that's what my starting problems were caused by. Hell, it'd take about a minute-plus of straight cranking to get it to even sputter to life - every time I started the car.

When i worked on mine, we replaced the cap & rotor, but did some serious cleaning while it was taken apart. When it was all said and done I wished I had just replaced the whole thing since it was such a pain in the ass to get to and I didnt want to do it again.
