  • Wiper arm/blinker control arm

I think my blinker/wiper/brights control arm needs to be replaced. My brights don't work at all, not even a click. Blinkers are fine and as for my wipers, half the settings don't work. So I'm wondering if I need to replace the whole thing or can it be repaired? Also how hard is it to replace? looks like it be a *****.

Its called a multi-function switch. Just get a new one. They arn't that expensive.
There is no quick fix since it is all electrical.

I don't believe the older columns have the access cover like the 93+ cars do. It should just snap in and out. I replaced the one on my 88 Fiero and it wasn't hard. The problem is the brights aren't part of that stalk. The actual switch is inside the column.

            Wiper Switch
            GM Firebird 1982-1992 Repair Guide
            REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
The wiper switch is part of the multi-function lever, located on the steering wheel column.
            1. Disconnect the electrical connector of the multi-function lever, located under the instrument panel.
            2. Remove the protective cover from the wire.
            3. Grasp the lever firmly, twist and pull (the tang on the lever must align with the socket) the lever straight out.
            4. Pull the wire through the steering column.
            To install:
            1. Slide a music wire tool through the steering column and connect the lever wire to the tool wire; pull the wire through the steering column.
            2. Push the control lever into the spring loaded socket (be sure to align the tang).
            3. Install the protective cover to the wire.
            4. Connect the electrical connector of the multi-function lever
