I wouldnt reccomend taking off ABS
unless you are micheal schumacher, you (and I) cannot consistently outbrake an ABS system.. and its even worse in a panic situation
Viper guys used to claim they were better and did not need ABS.. then ABS was put on.. and the braking distances dropped..
Threshold braking is a skill and is usually mastered on a racecource.. but you can test your abililty yourself if you like.
Go find a country road and experiment...

I didn't like ABS when it first came out either. Then I nearly hit 2 different idiots that pulled out in front of me. If it hadn't been for ABS I would have locked them up and nailed them. That sold me on it. In the snow though sometimes it is more of a pain than it's worth when it starts going off and you just keep sliding. The low trac light will come on if you're stopping and it starts to slide. Actually on my SS when I'm on the highway and drop it down to 3rd when doing 80 and stomp on it the low trac light will come on when the tires chirp.

the ABS on my 95 Camaro works GREAT. but anything from about 96-99ish... really sucked. I dont consider myself a michael schumacher, but i know i can stop better without ABS if i managed to do it with my rear wheels only-Joel

The truck stopped within 6 feet, but ABS couldnt slow it down with the front wheels in 20 feet.

ok well thats the exception for early ABS systems..
but ABS systems today are much better and will definately allow you to brake better.

yea indeed, i wouldnt take it off anything new.
I just dont understand why the ABS on my 95 camaro can be so awesome, yet the system on my newer truck sucks so bad. they really downgraded for a while there.-Joel
