  • Opti question

I think my opti is going out...what I dont know is whether i should replace the whole thing or just the cap and rotor. Is it the whole thing that usually goes out or just the cap and rotor?

how many miles are on your car? i had a 94 with a non vented opti and it lasted to about 110k so the vented ones last alot longer, just replace the cap and rotor

See thats the shady part...the engine is out of a 94...the guy before had swapped it in, and claimed it was replaced...its not really bad but every once and a while after idling when you go on the gas it does that sluggish thing. Hopefully I can just get away with replacing the rotor and cap.

If I wanted a vennted opti im assuming I would have to do a cam swap?

when my water pump went I replaced that whole thing. Usually optical sensor don't go bad, but if you already have it out, replace the whole darn thing since the whole unit already has high mileage on it and will go sooner or later. A new opti unit from summit or GM would be include the cap and rotor already ready to install.

yea he lives here in grand blanc, his work is great and his labor prices are even better he specializes in trans he rebuilt my trans for 400$ but i provided the parts cause i wanted "beefier" components installed. so if you or anybody else needs some work done thats out of there "know-how" league dont since this being Michigan dont have alot of money, get ahold of me and give you a contact number for him

willasc but the difference is around 400. whole opti is around 640 and a cap and rotor you can get anywhere from 110 - 200. a new cap and rotor will last and be good enough

For around $450 you can get a brand new GM opti and for around $515 you can purchase the MSD opti.
