can grounds be wired together?

im mid-process of installing new gauges and im now getting a funny reading from my air-fuel gauge that i never had before... signal just looks weaker. Its not sharing a ground, but it is grounded VERY CLOSE to the other gauges i grounded all together (but havent wired the senders yet, just the power wires).

thoughts? running individual grounds to different areas of the car would probably be another several hours of work, my console pod is pretty, but NOT convenient to work on

Umm a ground is a ground. On my stereo systems I always run to a distribution block then run one ground wire. Same could be done for the gauges. Make sure it's grounding to bare metal.

all of my grounds are drilled straight into the chasis in the door frame near the fuse panel.

should be fine, I have put more than one ground at places before with no ill effects.

Did you scuff the paint off where you have the ground screwed into? It might not be good enough if it's only grounding through the screw.

This is a perfect situation to use one of those star washers that dig in as the screw or bolt is tightened down. They make for a good electrical connection.

no i figured the self-tapping screw would be plenty, i will try that.
