  • power window problem

a couple weeks ago when i would try and put my window up, it would go half way up and stop. wait a few minutes and it would go up some more and wait again and it would go all the way up. it was doing this just once in a while but its been happening more often now. today it did it while i was trying to put the window down, it would go part way and stop, wait a minute or so and try again and it would again move a little more. any ideas? thanks for the help

        The motor is going bad.

When most electric motors start to go bad they start to produce more and more heat while they work. There is a thermal switch in the motor that cuts power when the motor gets to hot, so you don't burn out the motor.

That is what is causing the intermittent working of the motor. The motor gets hot then the switch cuts the power, motor cools down and the motor will work again. Eventually the motor will die completely, hopefully not while the window is down and it starts to rain.

        Hope this helps a bit.

def window motor as others stated, i did mine a few months ago, almost every fbody goes through these, there is a howto somewhere so that you can do the job yourself, it is very very easy to do yourself with the howto.

when you put the new motor in fix the ground (gm did a crappy job with the door grounds which is what actually kills the motors from what I have seen)

I got mine on ebay...autozone may be a better idea. When I went to replace it, it turns out that i was replacing the replacement. So regardless where you get it...it will probabl;y go bad again.

if you check on ls1tech there is a company that provides a rewire kit that supposedly drastically helps the windows go up faster and also the lifespan of the passenger motor. There was some reasoning behind it that the passenger window doesnt get the same amount as power and can fail easier or something like that.

the pass side motor is a more common failure. The power wire basically wraps around the car. The lower the voltage the higher the amperage which kills the motor. The wiring kit adds a relay to the pass side motor
