  • Repairing Vert Window

Anyone have a suggestion on what type of adhesive to use for the rear convertible window? Its slowly separating from the fabric and letting water in.

If your rear window is failing, you have three paths you can take -- unless you want to count duct tape!

First path is to use 3M WindowWeld adhesive. This is the good stuff, and it's priced accordingly. Available at paint supply shops -- you won't find this at O'Reilly's or AutoZone. You will have to clean the mating surfaces religiously. Try buying PrepSol or something like it at the paint store where you buy the WindowWeld. After cleaning the surfaces, put the tube of WindowWeld into a caulk gun, run a bead where needed, compress, and pray.

To be honest, though, once your bond between the window and the curtain starts to fail, you are only buying time. You may get a year or so out of a WindowWeld repair, depending on how good of a bond you are able to get.

Curtains can be replaced separately from the top, and there is a YouTube video that tells you how to do it.

The glass rear windows and curtains are available on eBay -- try to get a Robbins rear windows & curtain, as that's the best quality and it's what our cars came with originally.

The last resort is to just get a new top, if you're experiencing any tears or dry rot, etc. You can try taking this on yourself too, but it's not for the faint-hearted.

Again, a Robbins top is the recommended choice, and will run you close to $1,600 installed at a reputable shop.

PM me if you want to talk about any of this or have any questions.

I know what you're saying Jeff, and agree that it's not worth going the full monty of a new top if the car is for sale. But he's gotta keep the water out of that back seat and trunk area, otherwise the car will, in the short term, develop mildew, and in the long term it will develop rust (if it hasn't already, from being in Michigan). He's going to get beat up badly on price if the leak isn't fixed at least somewhat workmanlike, and if the car smells like it's been wet. $20 in WindowWeld will save him from sellers wanting to knock hundreds off his asking price.

sorry to be misleading Kevin, Vince is just a bullshitter and has tried to tell us that he recently sold the car, then he posts this and blows his own lie lol.
