Ive always wondered about converting my car to e85. It seems like a good deal. 105ish octane for 20 cents less than regular. less gas millage but the price should make up for most of that. What would go into the converion. Bigger fuel pump and would you need one for alcahol? Injectors, a tune, fuel filter. Am i missing anything?

actually e85 is approximately 30% less efficient so at this point its still cheaper to buy regular fuel.-Joel

It is a basic computerized kit that intercepts the signals coming from the PCM to the fuel injectors. With a flip of a switch you can change from E85 to regular Gasoline and vis versa.
I have been thinking about this myself too. With it i think i could remove all exhaust restrictions and still pass emissions tests.

It's easy, you probably will need bigger injectors than stock to effectively run it:

All I know ,I tried it in my Xtreme and WILL NEVER again....
At one point the truck sputtered & would hardly go,engine light goes on .
running down the road at 25 mph like it had no power.
My mechanic said " get rid of the flex fuel & put regular gas back in "..
The flex fuel is a dirty fuel, and cleans so much that little particules screw up your injectors And also wears down engine parts quicker !!!
Needless to say ,it might be a little cheaper in PRICE ,but could cause bigg problems & money down the road !!!!
**** FEAR THIS ! ***

hmm..
well tony.. im going to have to disagree.
the automotive world has 100,000 mile warrantied E85 fuel systems. They can and will work perfect if you take the time to properly convert your fuel system to E85 safe!
E85 is a great alternative to race fuel, however, its not a great alternative if you only need 87 octane..

Tony, did you do anything as far as tuning or fuel system upgrades?
It won't work well unless you take into account those things. It isnt a direct replacement for regular gasoline.

e85 may be less efficient than gasoliine. but you have to consider where e85 comes from. corn mostly( altough they can make it out of alot off different organic products) that money you spend on e85 goes back into the pockets off farmers here in the states. that boosts this nations economy rather than a foreign oil countries economy

as for performance i have been mixing a 50/50 mix of gasoline and e85 (to produce around e40-e45 in my 01 cavalier w/ a quad 4. i have had no performance issues what so ever I wont run straight e 85 but if someone does all that happens is your fuel trim shows a lean condition. ses light and maybe rough running i wouldn't reccomend it. in a non flex fuel vehicle, but like i said i haven't had a problem.
