for some reason i feel like larry knows what he's talking about. im gonna have to side with him and everyone else that says it's a bad idea to use E-85 in a stock engine not meant for it.

But now an interesting idea is to make your own hydrogen bubbler and then have your car run off of the hydrogen gas using nothing more than tap or distilled water.- Brian Meissen

well when you run a fuel at 14.7:1 that is ment for like 9.6:1 you can't expect it to run good. that would be like running your gas car at 19:1! one would expect to have problems. I personaly like the idea of running e-85 as a replacement for race gas only. Its not cheap enough to justify the cost of converting everything and the fuel mileage loss.
So obviosly some people get luck and can run e85 with no problems or changes and some cannot. Lets just agree your 95% of the time better off doing all the stuff to convert itsigpic

hahaha . . . a friend of mine (Randy, the guy that helped us at Superfest) actually is doing this to a car that they have at work, as a "experiment". They bought the book from the internet and followed the directions. They were all pretty skeptical but curious.Originally posted by meissen View PostBut now an interesting idea is to make your own hydrogen bubbler and then have your car run off of the hydrogen gas using nothing more than tap or distilled water.
They are going to tear the car down after a few thousand miles and see if there is any damage. So far the fuel economy has increased over 30% on the car they are using . . . they are putting about 50 miles a day on it. No mods except adding the bubbler.
I'm still skeptical, but beginning to be convinced . .sigpic

I'm still skeptical, but beginning to be convinced . .Supposedly anthing that is a huge alternative from using petroleum is really controversial. The guy was telling me that people got killed for being a big advocate of hydrogen and spreading the word because obviously it'd be a threat to OPEC's success in the future.Originally posted by 81DaytonaPaceCar View PostNow THIS has me interested...- Brian Meissen

yup, i am replacing c16 with e85 in my v8 truck is exactly the plan i have. i can run high boost without 12 dollars a gallon fuel.Originally posted by DanO View PostE-85 should be used as a 'cheap' race fuel.. thats probably the best use for it. But you need to do the conversions first!
but to do it... new lines, new fuel injectors, bigger fuel pump, bigger fpr and then the tune!
i would never run e85 in a motor that was not prepped to run it.

BTW, for those that don't know, the hydrogen bubbler doesn't completely replace the gasoline . . . you add it in to the existing fuel/air mix (how you do this differs depending on your fuel system.) It's just supposed to boost MPG.Originally posted by meissen View PostSupposedly anthing that is a huge alternative from using petroleum is really controversial. Sorry to bring up an old subject but when watching the video I noticed that the oil pump did not look like an LSX style oil pump now I am pretty sure that they changed the trucks over to an LSX based engine in 1999 please tell me if I am wrong. I would love to run my 5.3 on E-85 just to keep my money from leaving the country!
