Yes, my opinion is that we will be headed towards V6, I6, I4's etc.. with boosting and direct injection.. V8's of today will be beat in nearly every category by these smaller engines.. except for "sound" which i will agree that a V8 does have an appealing sound... but so does a Ferrari V10.
either way, the auto industry / vehicle sales will be the deciding factor, its rather pointless to argue about it.
I disagree. If you dont buy the car and it only sells 20k a year, GM is going to leave a 15 year old motor in it.

No. What it is, is GMs classic way of killing something it doesnt want by creating a false blame. theyre doing it with the colorado too and its bulls***.
When youre a company in something to make money, you fix your mistakes or you start again from scratch with something better instead of whining about it.

Take a ride in any BMW from the last 5 years, and they are hands and nees above the STS and DTS. I agree, they shouldnt just leave it in most cases. STS and DTS are so terrible IMO they should just start fresh. It cant be that hard. They already have the G8 and Zeta. They have the Camaro's V8 motors. They have the Sixteen to copy design wise. My aunt has a 07 DTS and its the biggest piece of crap Ive seen with a 50k price tag. DTS rides on W-Body for gods sake, and thats at least 10 years old now. We need a new car if we really want to be "Standard of the World" not a 10 year old Wbody, LS3, and the CTS outside ques, with STS interior.
those v8s are going to be beat because the technology isnt being put into them.
its a political death. Its going to happen, but caddilac of all brands isnt what i expected to go first. The v8 is its roots.

Extra cylinders cost $$.. its 8 more valves, 8 more lifters, 2 connecting rods, 2 pistons, extra casting, more precision ground lobes on a cam, more precision ground journals on a crankshaft, etc.. and MORE IMPORTANTLY with the way direct injection is going.. it saves 2 VERY expensive injectors
If you can get the same performance from a boosted 6 cylinder that costs less and gets better mpg.. what do you think the auto industry will choose? Especially when they have other areas they would rather put the money.. like electronics and controls
