I think we're still living with that perception from the mid-50s...when V8s became cost effective to produce, and if you didn't have one, it was marketed that you were missing something.

        The perception just hasn't changed.

yes but this is cadillac were talking about, not honda. Unecessicity is exactly their target market.

this is an excellent point. cadillac is definitely going beyond the 'point a to point b' kind of car, built for people who find it absolutely necessary to be kind of flashy with their stuff. so, i can see how they would still do business with the v8s.

I still don't see them sharing much of their drive train with the rest of the GM lines. Having a different engine that no other brand has and marketing it as "superior" is part of their draw I think.

When it boils down to it, what do I care, I'm never going to own one, not because I can't, because I don't want to.

so dont you see a problem when a "chevy" engine is better than a cadillac?

im sure that gm doesnt. seriously, most of the people who drive the cadillacs arent the type of people who are going to work on their cars by themselves..... ...i think you guys can see where im going with this

gen IV and LS v8s are ahead of northstars on reliability.

The 300hp DI v6 has been out for 3 months, and is quite hard to get still.
You cant blame poor v8 sales from Jan to Oct because of a motor comming.
Perhaps the V8 isnt needed, even when compared to the old CTS v6.
Northstar is complete crap these days, and so are the cars it goes in.
I dont see much more to understand

you can however blame poor v8 sales on an engine that has sucked since its debut.

youre disagreeing with me on the stupid details, not the point so im not sure why youre trying to make it look like youre on the other side of the fence.

Im disagreeing with how your putting it.

Your blaming weak sales on a shitty motor.
Im blaming weak sales on a shitty car, with a shitty motor.

Im for Cadillac having a V8 in a car, im not for them having a V8 in crappy cars like they have now.

your opinion of the car is really entirely besides the point. a crappy car isnt going to affect a particular engines sales within that car.

if the silverado sucked people wouldnt be more tempted to order 4.3s

A buyer like you would choose a different car. if you arent buying the car, you arent affecting its optioning sales percentages.

welp, a lot of people actually take their cars to the dealership to get fixed. if the caddy engine isnt as good as the chevy engine, chances are there will be more problems and more things will need to be fixed. therefore, generating more income for the dealership or gm. because as you stated before, cadillac is a luxury item, i think it will continue to be purchased regardless of what kind of engine you throw in it. it has the cadillac badge and thats all that matters to a lot of people.

I disagree. If you dont buy the car and it only sells 20k a year, GM is going to leave a 15 year old motor in it.
