  • Third gen 2nd fuel filter?

I need to change my fuel filter but found this:

It looks like a second filter has been added less than a foot up the line from the stock located one... Would this be normal from when the previous owner switched from a tpi 305 to a carb 350?
Here is a better pic of the 2nd "filter?"

I've never seen one like that....just the one sitting cross-car.

Okay... So it looks like it's not a filter but is a universal fuel pump. The odd thing is, the mechanic who put the new 400 in also put a fuel pump in the engine bay. So at this point it appears that there is a stock pump in the tank, an inline filter under the car and a third in the engine bay... I don't see any wires externally on the this old universal one. What are the odds that it is not active and is just now a part of the fuel line? Any ideas on how to check if it's active? Would it "tick" when the key is turned? Any thoughts appreciated.

Remove it all, run new. If the car is TPI there should not be a pump in the engine bay... only one in the tank.
