Hi, I know some of you have these. Was looking at this cam or the Lunati 219/227 Voodoo (50 Degrees Overlap). I have a 96 Trans Am with a 6 Speed & 3.42 Gears, I will install LT's at the same time & have the SLP 2otl exhaust. This is just for Spirited Street Driving, but I do like "Decent" Manners. I have a Gen 1 350 that I installed a 48 degree overlap cam in & it's OK. Thanks, Tim

That lunati cam will drive great, no cam surge and you'll barely be able to hear that you have a cam. I had it before and for a driver I'd use it again. AI makes great cams too but you are comparing two different sizes of cam.

Birdie.....Thank you! Could you please tell me more about your setup, ie; stock short block, did you increase compression, did you have to step up to bigger injectors, rear gear? Thanks Again, TimI think this Situation Absolutely Requires......a Really Futile & Stupid Gesture.....be Done on Somebody's Part. We're just the Guys too do it.

I have the AI 226/234 and i will say its an awesome cam. Its a great choice because it maximizes the potentional of a lot of stock conponents while staying reliable (heads, opti, bottom end, etc). Check out my youtube for videos same username as here.
Its a ton of fun on the street because the mid range is very strong and it keeps pulling right to the limiter.-Joel

Thats partially because i set the idle to 700
it chops pretty hard at idle, but it smooths right out by 1500 or so.

With how it sounds, that should be required for that cam. Same with true-duals.Originally posted by JoeliusZ28 View PostThats partially because i set the idle to 700

Joel, I was hoping you would reply........Do you still have the Cam Card for that Cam, or do you know the advertised duration? I would really like to put the overlap in prospective. How is your "parking lot cruise"? Thanks, TimOriginally posted by JoeliusZ28 View PostI have the AI 226/234 and i will say its an awesome cam. [QUOTE=aLNUKEM;925144]Stock displacement rebuild (well, 353ci), compression was slightly lower at 10.4:1 because of the heads I had. Can't really comment on what injectors are needed because I had ported heads plus just used bigger injectors because I had them around and my tuner said they'd be fine. Rear gear was 3.42 with a T56 transmission.Originally posted by birdie2000 View PostThat lunati cam will drive great, no cam surge and you'll barely be able to hear that you have a cam. It would be a great cam for a tame cam-only setup on stock displacement.

Its the 226/234 on AI's website. I dont have a cam card for it unfortunately but they should be able to supply you one, i have a card for my 230/238 AI cam. It does surge in parking lots but my low rpm tune is NOT perfect. Its just habbit for me anytime im idling around in 1st i hold the clutch partially engaged so it absorbs it. It is a 110 LSA so there is definitely some overlap.Originally posted by aLNUKEM View PostJoel, I was hoping you would reply........Do you still have the Cam Card for that Cam, or do you know the advertised duration? Also my compression is 11.5:1Last edited by JoeliusZ28; February 18th, 2016, 12:25 PM.-Joel

[QUOTE=birdie2000;925156]Thanks, That sounds like what I'm looking for. I'm not looking for the last 20 HP. From what I have read, the cams are a real bottleneck on our engines. What did you end up putting down? How much of a bottleneck are the stock heads? I still have lots of odds & ends to check/change from it sitting 10 years, ie....rotors, fluids, injectors & I haven't put a vacuum gauge on it yet. I will probably run it a good bit this summer looking for demons. Thanks again. TimOriginally posted by aLNUKEM View Post

Car never saw any full dyno runs and honestly the tune was never 100% but it performed similar to a GM Hotcam. With that cam I wouldn't say stock heads are a bad option, would guess you'd pick up 20-30hp if you had them ported. If I did it all over again I would have left the heads alone.
