Convertible Boot Cover Storage

I recently picked up the 3-piece plastic boot cover for my convertible. I've read the owners manual, and it instructs to "store the bag in the hatch".

My question is...where does this thing actually store in a stock car? I see it has velcro on one side of the bag. Does it sit down in the trunk well similar to T-Top storage, or is it supposed to go on the "shelf" (over the gas tank) behind the seats and basically under where the top folds down?

I have an amp on that "shelf" - which I am considering relocating anyway, and I have a sub that leverages the trunk well space. Just trying to see where the heck the thing is supposed to go so I can start evaluating how I will be choosing to modify the current setup to allow me to store it.

goes down in the "well". You should have a piece of rubber molding too that goes across the rear of the boot when it is on the car. keeps the paint from getting scratched

Is the rubber permanently fixed to the trunk lid, or something that should be in the bag and attaches to the cover?

Looks like I may be redesigning the subwoofer setup then to accomodate. Currently, I have:

the molding piece should be in the bag. about 4' long, the width of the trunk lid.

My car will be out in a week or two, I'll be happy to show you the storage situation and the rubber seal. Basically, the Velco on the boot bag adheres to the trunk carpet on the vertical surface that rises up over what would be the back of the fuel tank. The seal fits on the back edge of the deck lid -- I can't see from your photo if you have this or not. I bought mine from Trans Am Creations in Alabama -- they are fast and reasonable. The seal doesn't so much protect the paint as it keeps tree debris and other crap out of the deck's drain gutters.

Thanks, Kevin - I am actually in the Ren Cen now (damn GBS)...so, I won't really be around the tech center to check it out. I'll have to get out to WW this year.

I have a seal that's permanently on the trunk lid that seals up against the soft top...I assume this is something in addition to that? I can check the bag to see if it's in there. Bought a cover off a '95 Firebird, allegedly used once (it looks it too).

I'm going to have to see what I can do about that, given the subwoofer in the trunk.

Is this the molding piece you're referring to? It was on the vehicle when I bought it. Didn't see anything in the bag with the tonneau.

Yes, it's just a soft seal that slides over a flange edge molded into the deck lid assembly. Your car has been so well-cared for all its life that I would have been surprised if it didn't have the seal intact.

Yeah, kind of a bummer the PO didn't include the tonneau when it was sold, however...given the sub box, it kind of makes sense now...couldn't really fit those in there anyway.
