  • New timing set vs old

What's the first thing you see wrong lol? This was a time consuming job, but pretty easy.

I replaced all the gaskets, o-rings, seals, tensioner, water pump, timing chain damper, bolts, studs, cam and crank sensor, and torqued it all by the book. Can't wait to fire it up!

In the grand scheme of things, that stretch isn't excessive. What were the symptoms that led you to do the swap?

I see there are less links. But pin to pin length is different, hence the new crank and cam sprockets.

What did the chain damper look like? Tooth damage on the cam sprocket?

Cam sprocket and damper "looked fine", however, there was a ton of slop in the chain. When I rotated the crank counter-clockwise there was a good inch of movement. Timing dots were still lined up though.

Did this fix the knock? If you haven't put it back together, definitely replace the damper as well.

Honestly, it sounds like a rod knock to me.

I replaced the damper. I originally thought rod knock too, but when I dropped the oil pan there were no bolts, bearings, nothing. There was fine metal shavings though.

After listening to some videos I'm thinking rod knock too.
