  • 98 ls1 oil sending unit

ordered a 98 oil sending unit from hawksthirdgen and the threads are like way too small. I broke the old one and through it away awhile ago so I cant remember what it looked like. I have a 98 ls1

that's the one I ordered and the part number matches.

You probably have a newer block then. 99+ look the same the thread diameter is just larger.

You sure? I didn't think they put the sensor in the valley cover until they moved the knock sensors to the side of the block.

I have 806 heads and even my head bolts are for a 98 block. It definitely doesn't bolt into the valve cover

Can't say I've heard of a block change late in the 98 model run, but it wouldn't be the first time there was a mid-year change.

Is there any indicators on it being a 98 or 99 block? And aren't the connectors different between the two oil sending units,

You can check to production date. The thread size for the oil pressure sensor is usually the giveaway.

Yes, the 98 and 99+ temp sensors are different, but the 98 sensor will thread into 862/317/243/etc. Whose to say that someone didn't put the 806 heads on a 99+ shortblock though?

So if the sensors are different how did they plug in a 99 sensor on a 98 PCM?

Oil pressure sensor has the exact same connector across all the years, it's just the threads that are different.

I put a 2003 LQ4 into my 98. Only had to change the temp sensor. Everything else plugged in.
