LT1 motor work needed.......maybe

Well I had big plans of working on my 1996 Z28 this winter. I have a poor garage setup so needless to say with how cold it was I didn't do a darn thing. Now that its starting to get nicer I'm wanting to get things rolling. Work is now starting to pickup also. Extra time is getting hard to come by.
So my question is..........anyone good with LT1's in northern Michigan? I'm in West Branch (hour north of Saginaw on I-75)

Looking for.......

Intake swap.....I have another
change plugs and wires (has stock manifolds still)

Maybe look at my oil leak up front. Think its from the water pump and opti O-rings??????

Only input I have is that I had a leak from the Optispark seal and it's very easy to replace. The specialty tool for installing the seal is pretty important though.

I have read about the tool in a few posts online. Didn't know if anyone had one and experience using it. Really my main concern is just getting the intake swapped and just having a tuneup done (plugs and wires). I read that the intake can be kinda tricky with setting the new one on and doing it so you don't get a oil leak out the back of it. As far as the plugs and wires from reading posts on here it sounds like you guys who have changed them with the stock manifolds know what to do......if your new to it your going to be in trouble. ...lol......I'm new to the car. Lol

Yeah I was just wondering if anyone on here did anything in their garage on the side or something. I'm pretty new to the LT1 and just not real confident tearing into it just yet. Especially when work is getting busy and don't have as much time. So i figured here would be a good place to start asking.

Ah I was just making sure I understood your post.

Yes there are guys who do work on the side on here.

Its easy to do the intake manifold.
What intake did you get to replace the factory one?
Just so you know anything but a custom piece like a sheet metal intake is really a waste.
You can run the stock intake into the 9s because its basically perfect.

Its just another stock intake. I'm throwing a egr code and when we went to replace the egr valve one of the nuts was rounded over. Looks like the guy who had it before me tried to replace it and it didn't go well. So Ken from here was nice enough to set me up with another painted intake last summer and I just never got around to doing it. Figured it would be a good winter project but was to damn cold!! Lol

I had the tool at one point and I might still have it. I've moved like 3 times since then though so I'll have to do some major cleaning to find it.

Well last summer when I first got the car it was leaking up front. After reading posts on here I figured that was my problem. I was also reading about different oil to use for high mileage and older seals. High mileage oil was recommended so I started running Mobile 1 high mileage and it seems to have helped. So I'm not to worried about that now. If someone said yeah I have the tool and have done that job a few times and its a piece of cake then I'd be all for it. If not no big deal.

High Mileage oil is debatable because it contains additives that cause seals to swell which helps stop leaks, but on the same time swelled seals become weaker and can fail.

Biggest problem you'll be running into on here is that most of us are in the Metro Detroit or Grand Rapids area.

I've meet and talked with ken last summer, super cool guy and boy he knows his stuff!! He also seems pretty busy. I'm just to far north to really know to many of you guys....lol. I thought their was a couple guys from the Bay City/Saginaw area but maybe backyard mechanic isn't their thing. Lol. I'm sure ill get around to it but thought if someone wanted to make some extra cash and liked doing it then we could chat. No big deal. Just the warmer weather has me excited!!
