  • how much to mill

I have a 98 Trans am Ls1. Im putting in a cam right now. Comp cam 224/230 600ish lift 114 lsa. I already have ported TB, ls6 intake, pacesetter long tube headers. , off road pipe, hooker exhaust, 3200 vig stall and all the ls1 free mods. Im going to port and polish a set of stock 806 heads. I would like to run e85. So im wondering how much i should mill the heads to raise the compression. since im using the 806 heads im pretty sure my choice of head gasket is limited.

My plan is to have a very strong strret car/dd. I plan on going to the track once or twice. im hoping to run 11's this year.

Your milage with E85 will suck for a daily driver. Better off to cut them .020 and use pump premium.

don't mill to much or you will have intake geometry issues... why are you set on e85? gonna require a lot more to run that fuel and for a stock static compression or just a hair above stock I would just run a good pump gas

E-85 can handle a lot more compression than you can get from milling those heads. Anything more than about .020" and your going to have fit problems with the intake. Use an online compression calculator to figure out what your compression will be.

i didnt think about the intake...hmm. i would like to run e85 for a couple reasons. i dont have cats, so my car stinks lol. also i would like to get as much power as i can and keep it reliable. there are a lot of e85 stations around me. and e85 is almost a dollar cheaper per gallon then premium. i've read with the right tune and higher compression i can get similar mpg and higher performance.

what if i got a set of 243 or 799 heads?

or does anyone know of some performance heads that are cheap

You will only see about a 5% hp gain with a good tune using e85. Remember you will be using at least a third more volume of fuel with e85. The main advantages of e85 is price difference compared to RACE GAS, along with its anti-knock capabilities. I run my car on the street with 13.8-1 compression on e85. The only way your going to really be able to really take advantage of using e85 is to either really bump up the compression which is going to take a good set of pistons, or boost it.
