  • Need some advice and suggestions on oil pressure gauge

Hello everyone, im just not 100% comfortable with the oil pressure gauge in my 94 z28 so im thinking about installing an aftermarket one to take the uncertainty out of knowing my true oil pressure. Can anyone give me some tips on what is the best type of gauge to use, electric or mechanical. Also, what is a good name brand gauge to use and which ones to stay away from? Im thinking of doing the install on my pillar but open to suggestions. Also, where could i find directions on how to install and hook up an aftermarket gauge? Thanks for the info!
    Thanks,
    Stephen

Electrical are nice because you don't have to worry about any fluid being in the interior of your car, pretty simple to hook up, power, ground, wires to the sending unit. You should have a spot near the oil filter where you could tap in. I've always used Auto Meter, never had a problem and their tech support is great. LT1s are known for low oil pressure though. Hot idle spec is like 6 psi.

6 psi....that's crazy lol. Thanks for the reply....so you recommend electric over mechanical? Are the electric gauges as accurate as everyone says about the mechs? Thanks again.
      Thanks,

The electric gauge in my car is very responsive to any change in pressure. I've used mechanical before and my electrical one responds just as quickly. I would go for electrical. Electrical will be more money, but again you're avoiding fluid in the cabin.

I'm a fan of mechanical gauges - just make sure to run copper or braided line instead of the cheap ass plastic.
