  • Spun rod bearing - what to do?

My dad is picking up a 98 z28 with 120k miles. It most likely has a spun rod bearing but we need to look into it further. What are some good shops around the Grand Rapids area that could do the rebuild work? Once we get into it and see how bad it is, we will have to decide if its worth rebuilding or if we should swap in an lq4. Any advice if we should rebuild or just swap motors? What are some expected costs for each option? I would plan on pulling the motor from the car myself to save some labor costs.

Just swap motors. You'll have more into it with labor alone than you will buying a 100K mile junkyard LQ4.

Swap engines and sell it with the spun bearing.
People are crazy and will buy it just because its an LS. The only main difference between a LQ and LS is the LS has an aluminum block, and a different intake manifold.
