  • Rod knock? what do you think?? noise inside

story on the shortblock. i just put in a used shortblock for this year and pretty sure its a rod knock.

    The Setup:
15k on shortblock (5k on rod bolts)
ARP2000 Rod bolts (oversizing of big end of rod done )
    Flycut Pistons
    Brian Tooley SLR lifters
    Raptr Cam (615/615, 236/242, 111)
    Stock length Pushrods (comp)
    Stock Rocker Arms
    Dual valve springs
Rotella T6 oil changed 2k after i installed the shortblock

    heres the noise

the oil pressure is steady. a little low when warm at 20psi. i dont see any glitter in the oil.

i noticed the knock after going to norwalk. only could hear it 3000rpsm and above when in gear. if i revved it i didnt hear it. i drove it another day and it got worse and does it all the time now. now it sits.

pushrods are all straight. rocker needle bearings are not blown. havent done a proper lifter test yet(not sure of how) vacuum is steady so i dont suspect a valve is bent. valve springs are ok.

its possible the rod bolts werent done right but they have a total of 8000 miles on them and now i have an issue. took that long to have an issue??

i know asking whats wrong with my car over the internet isnt the best way figure it out. im looking for some opinions and tests i can do before tearing it all apart to confirm what it is. i only got to drive the car for a little over a month.

a lot of ppl say rod knock. a few have thought its too fast to be a rod knock. i tried unplugging a coil at a time while it was idling. the knock didnt change. any help is appreciated

I just had a rod bearing go in my TBSS and it sounded very similar! The dealer should be able to diagnose the issue for you with their stethoscopes as well!

Hard to tell. But from the video, is the sound coming from the rear of the motor? If its an auto, it could be a cracked flexplate. Otherwise, it sounds like a rod knock.

It's a manual. Thanks for watching the vids.

              I'm considering having it rebuilt
