  • Ethanol Free Fuel

A station near my house has 90 octane ethanol-free gasoline now. I typically put 87 or 89 in my 1996 SC2, I decided to try this ethanol-free for my last two tanks. My average MPG went from 33.6 to 36.7 with driving styles being the exact same. I took a 100 mile highway trip and averaged 42.1 MPG, my best previous 100 mile + highway trip was 37.4 mpg. These results were taken from a Scan Gauge and verified by filling the tank and doing the math.

I have also noticed that the engine feels smoother in the upper rpm range, idle is more consistent, and seems to have a bit more response.

I really like the idea of no ethanol, seeing what is left after it burns does not really make me want it in my engine.

Would it be a bad idea to try a 13 gallon 90 ethanol-free and 2 gallon 110 octane mix in the Camaro?
That should be just under 93 octane.

After reading the first paragraph I was boggled why you wanted to put ethanol back in it in the second paragraph. I thought the point was to avoid ethanol all together.. at least for my car it would be. Damn I wish I could find a station like that around here. I'm not sure what the law is but gas stations are allowed to use up to a certain percentage ethanol mix in all their regular gas... so retarded.
    What's the station/address?

I don't want any ethanol, that's why I said use 90 octane ethanol-free and some 110 race fuel mix.
Here is a site that will show you all in your area.

oh whoops i totally read that 110 octane as ethanol for some reason. but yes it would be great to get it all out of our cars they certainly weren't designed for it, even if it is "acceptable".

I wish you could search by zipcode on there, dang. Which ones are even close around here?

Makes sense to me! Ethanol has less energy than gasoline. They want to raise the ethanol level from 10% to 15%. If this happened many older vehicles will be damaged. If your have a classic car that doesn't get used often, many problems will surface when you take it out of storage if ethanol levels continue to increase.

That one shows everyone that people have said carry it in MI, I don't know where in Novi you live, but the station I use is on Grand River in Brighton.
My friend from high school family owns Corrigan Oil, and a few stations in town. So I like to buy my gas from them.
Also, I have noticed I get better MPG with their gas then from Shell and Mobil around here.

Brians right, it takes more ethanol to get the same btu's

I thought the goverment made it mandatory that all gasoline was atleast E10 for emissions, its been a couple years since i read about it in school, so i may be slightly wrong but i know it helps with reducing green house gases.
