1997 Ford Taurus. Won;t shift out of first gear. Everything else seems fine, full of red fluid. Parking brake idiot lights been on for years. 140k, my friends car so I dont know much about how this happened. I think he said he had the neutral safety switch replaced last time this happened and it was fine? Any input appreciated.

You sure it's stuck in first? Default is second gear when a problem is detected.

Speedo's working. You may be right about it being in second: you really have to give it some gas to get it moving and then tops out at 25 which is hard to maintain - which leads me to believe first gear.. idk tho.Last edited by jakes_GSXR; April 6th, 2013, 02:35 PM.Comment

If the speedo works, it's possibly due to a bad solenoid(s) or no power going to the trans.
