  • What oil should I put in my fresh motor?

I changed the oil after first start up then put royal purples break in oils an have been running it for around 400 miles.

What synthetic oil should I usefor the remainder life? And why?

    Thanks!

Whatever you want, frankly, as long as you change it regularly. I ran around with O'Reilly Brand oil for the first few oil changes, but I was changing the oil pretty regularly. Now I have Mobile 1. As long as you're not going 10,000 miles between oil changes I honestly don't think it makes a differene.

I have 1200 miles on my motor now. I've changed the oil 3 times. I just used Castrol 10w30 and delco filter. I'm not sure when I want to start putting synthentic in it. When I do switch to synthetic, I will go back to Amsoil for sure.

Yeah, I haven't gotten to drive it as much this year. 5 Month old baby doesn't like loud exhaust and no a/c!

I use Amsoil. I am a true believer. I have been running the once a year oil change in my other cars with no issues what so ever. Actually, when I have opened them up, the internals are clean. I also get better gas mileage with them as well.

I have also heard really good things about royal purple. Quit a few engine build articles I have read of late they have finished the build with multiple dyne pulls. The synthetic royal purple was added last and always opens up another 3-6 hp (granted these are 450-500hp engines).

Do some research on the best oils. I have heard / read some bad things on some of the parts store oils, especially oil filters. Look it up.

on egine break in i useaully use a conventional oil to help seat the rings. some people throw synthetic in right away. at work we have found that if we put synthetic right away the engine wont seat the rings till around 500 hrs. and the engine will consume oil. this is a very controlled enviroment considering the engines are shut down every 50 hrs for a oil/coolant check and every 200 hrs we change the oil.

some people believe breakin is a bunch of B.S. i cant believe how many times i hear "just start it and drive it like it stolen breaking in a engine is a myth" then 50k down the road there wonder why they have broken ring or spun bearings.
