so i thought it was just the headgasket so i was going to replace it, but when i got the valve covers off it looks like one of the rods bent and destroyed the head on the driver side...should i continue and replace the head or is it too late for this f body? i need to know if i should part it out now...it has a t56 and alot of good parts but this is my only car so if someone has an extra ride sitting around that works, and you need a parts car let me know lol

Sounds like a simple fix - just a head and replace the broken parts?- Brian Meissen

if it broke a rod and busted the head then that would require teardown of the entire engine and having the rotating assembly rebuilt as well as the deck checked for flatness and a new head.Doing less with more

As far as I know, there is no way to tell if the piston rod is bent just by taking the valve cover offOriginally posted by bigjon88 View PostPiston rod
And a bent piston rod wouldn't allow the piston to hit the head, it would actually keep it further away.

That's exactly why I was curious. To me it sounds like he's talking about a bent push rod. Not to mention I've personally never heard of bent piston rods on an otherwise stock LT1. Bent push rod on the other hand is more likely.- Brian Meissen

Do not cut it, they are quick connects, you need a special tool which you can get at just about any auto parts store.Originally posted by chattersonm View Postlol for sure its a push rod, i mean as soon as i get some money i am gonna try and fix her up but i need parts to, so if anyone has a pushrod and maybe a replacement head(not sure if i need this yet) cause i think it just tore through the gasket. o yea, how do you disconnect the fuel line from the back of the intake? i cant seem to get it off and its pissing me off lol im about to cut a fuel line dammit haha
I have two sets of extra pushrods, you can have one if you need it, but you're kinda far away.sigpic
