no matter what, you're really not going to get that "off idle" torque like a blower cobra or anything of the likes. I would say your best bet though for a good setup would be a 6.0 iron truck motor. throw a decent set of heads and a cam in it and you'll be awfully happy! cruise through a junk yard or craigslist for the Fbody pan and accessories. I bet with some persistence you can find what you need for a decent price (it does suck when people think their used auto parts are gold! I dang near give my used stuff away i'm not using anymore even if it's worth something to the next guy)

The cheapest I have found was $500 for a complete f-body setup sitting in a guys shed. I passed. I'm just using the truck stuff with Dirty Dingo conversion parts. Although, with the Impala, I'd still have enough room in front to stick another motor
Pans sell for about $225-ish on ebay.
I'm using the H3 Alpha pan, $158 for everything...but again it's for an old skool Impala
