  • About to do a ton to my f-body, any additional suggestions?

This weekend there were some insane sales going on so I ordered a ton of stuff for my '98 z28, here's what I'm going to have someone do but I was wondering if there's anything else I should do at the time. I've seen on LS1Tech people recommend doing motor mounts, spark plugs, and wires while doing the headers. Thoughts on that?

This is what I have coming in the mail:

    Pacesetter long tubes
    Texas speed off road Y-pipe
    Texas speed rumbler cat back
    Yank SS 3600 stall converter
    Big trans cooler
    UMI:
    - 3 point weld in subframe connectors,
    - crossmember mounted torque arm w/ driveshaft loop,
    - weld in LCA relocation brackets,
    - on car adjustable panhard bar & lower control arms

So are spark plugs, wires, and poly motor mounts somethings I should do? The car has 137k on it (I know that's a lot but the car was babied and maintained very well)

Anything else I should do while all that other stuff is being done?

    Thanks.

Yes you should buy spark plugs, Most headers required you to remove the spark plugs to install. So if you have them out it is an easy time to install new ones.
Wires- Personally I would, the vehicle is almost 15 years old and they are likely original.

Poly motor mounts- I am probaly one of the only ones who would say no. I only say no from NVH point of view.

I agree on the motor mounts. I would get new stock rubber engine and transmission mounts just for peace of mind while I was in there, but I also opted for rubber in my build from a NVH standpoint. Now, if I understand correctly, this is more of a race car. I'm not sure how much tangible benefit there is to going to poly mounts, but that's up to you. Also, I can't remember what the rule is on going poly for the engine mounts, you're supposed to either go to or avoid a poly trans mount at the same time. I'm pretty sure you're supposed to switch to one at the same time, but look into it just to be sure. There's definitely a rule of thumb for that from a functionality standpoint, I just don't remember which.

And to me, plugs and wires are a no-brainer while you're in there. It certainly can't hurt, and as mentioned, they're getting pretty old if they're original.

        Thanks for the input guys.

birdie, I was just reading that if you go poly motor mounts to leave the rubber trans mount.

Good to know, thanks. It's been so long since I've wanted poly on anything in my car I completely drew a blank. Just wanted to make sure you didn't overlook it and run into any trouble.

              ^ what he said.

I would look into a Magnaflow or a Hooker. They will both sound better than a Rumbler. That is unless your going for shear loudness.

If you're going for just bolt ons you could do an underdrive pulley (I got the alternator overdrive pulley as well) and a ported throttle body. Do you have an aftemarket lid?

Do you have new gaskets for the lts? I highly suggest it.

Also how about an LS6 intake?

For right now I'll just leave it as the rumbler. I'm not concerned about noise since it's mostly going to be a track car.

I'm working on getting a lid right now. I'd really like to avoid doing underdrive stuff for now.

That's right...I still need to remove my LS6 intake and sell it.

                          Used to own a Firebird.
