  • LS1 balancer/Pulley

Anyone here using an aftermarket balancer/pulley on their LS engine? I have a stock F body pulley thats junk, cant use it. I'm looking to spin the engine to 7000+ possibly and I know for a fact that OEM balancers come apart at those RPMS anyway. Looking to see what people are using.

Stock, 6900 limiter. If you get an aftermarket get an actual balancer, not just crank pulley, real balancers have some ability to absorb shock and harmonics, not just a nice looking pulley.

my recomendation is a ATI considering your rpms. but!!!!
try a pioneer sfi balancer. I'v used them. there not an ati but they do work very well and there afforadable. heres some links.

            http://www.northernautoparts.com/Pro...ProductId=2431

i googled sfi ls1 balancer and found these. slp brand is made by powerbond so give them a look.

            http://www.google.com/search?q=sfi+l...w=1024&bih=585

summit racing also has one with there name on it. its affordable and i have heard it a good piece, but have not try'd it myself. the power bond worked well with mine. Remember one thing alot of people buy them and just slap them on. a harmonic balance is suppost to be balanced with your rotating assembly. this includeds (crank/rods/pistons/flexplate or flywheel/balancer/). if your going to build a seriouse motor better include fitted rod bearings and rings along with lower timing gear and oil pump drive, to get a spot on balance. alot of people who just throw a balancer on end up with vibration in higher rpm's which can crack or spin a bearing or even break your crank. how ever for durability id save and go with ATI. short cuts cost money.hope this helps.

I tell ya a good balencer is worth the money spent I have a lot of money in my firehawk bottom end and so I just spent the money and got the best ATI my big block has an 1800 dollar Lunati pro series crank in it and I am for sure going with ATI . But if money is a problem I would find the best peice within your budget I have seen these summit balencers on cars at car shows and at the track also seen a built in a mag a wile back that ran it id do a little check to see who makes it if its a good company that should give you sum peice of mind but if your spinning high RPMs id g
o ATI my machinest builds race and street engines and he built an old school small Chevy than would spin 10,000 RPM all day and it had a ATI balencer there real nice peice .

That's because you're nuts Russ! Lol. After working in the dyne cells.. I don't wanna see what a pulley does to my car when it flies off at 7200. It does happen!

Dont know why anyone would want to save a buck with a balancer. ATI here.... Its cheaper than a lower end.
