I've hit 29mpg before. Just not consistantly because that was ALL highway cruising at 70mph. Even a mix of highway and city I'll see 22-23mpg in the turd am. They get great mileage. Especially for what they are. I'm f'n thrilled when I hit 19mpg in the Explorer and its a the "Soccer mom express" with 100 less horsepower.

I took it to a service station right off the freeway just so I can do strictly highway driving. 24 mpg doesn't seem right at all then based on what you guys are telling and my mods(bolt ons, headers, dyno tune) I even took out the 160 tstat and put the stocker back in.

I have some kind of air/vacuum leak if you see my other thread with the audio. Could that mess with the fuel trim?

I've never seen more than 14mpg all city, and 16 with mostly highway sinc day one.

Well I used to get that...but my car isn't exactly "stock" anymore.

            Used to own a Firebird.

If I'm interpreting how the engine sees a vacuum leak correctly, I would imagine that it would in fact cause problems with MPG's. The reason I say this is because if the fuel pressure regulator sees a vacuum drop, it thinks you're at WOT and dumps more fuel into the fuel rails. If you have a vacuum leak, then your fuel regulator is (at the very least) always thinking you're at partial throttle.

Our cars are like twins I have longtube headers, LS6 intake and borla exhaust with a dyno tune... 350 rwhp. What speed were you going when you got 24 hwy?

ls1's dont have a vacuum operated regulator. its in the return line in the tank.
vacuum leak is unmetered air. 02's will see more air and add fuel.

my car used to get 31-32 on the highway. still gets 24 or so

Thing is, I've been getting crummy mileage like this since I bought the car (started this thread right after the dyno tune) It rushed me to mod it in hopes that the "problem" would be fixed that way since I tried all the regular stuff like spark plugs, wires and filters. Steve even looked over the tune twice, at normal throttle, and he said everything looks good.

You beat my by 15 horses haha I made 335rwhp on the mustang dyno at Vector.

I was going 70mph with the cruise control on, there was no traffic at all I was in the same speed the entire time.

hmm... yeah seems like you're low by at LEAST 3-4 mpg. Tires properly inflated? Spark plugs gapped properly? O2 sensors working? Clean MAF? stock gears in the rear?

Check to all! I'm on nt555r @ 25psi and the fronts are nt555 extremes @ 30psi. Spark plugs are Ac delcos, they were all at 40-41 out the box so I didn't touch them. 02's and MAF are good and read good when it was tuned.
