  • Bad gas?

Car has been running great, til today.. lol I never, ever go below a 1/4 tank of gas before I refill, til today.. As soon as I refilled I took off, came to a light car almost died.. Took off from the light to get on the highway and got on it pretty hard. Accelerated nicely, but as soon as I let off it the exhaust tone changed.. Sounds odd now, doesn't seem low on power, but definitely a different exhaust tone and feel.. Going to change the filter tomorrow, wondering if I just stirred up some shit by letting it run so low(fuel)? Haven't changed the filter in 5 years either..

    Could be.

I'm curious, where did you get it?

I know my gf's gas station gets gas on Mondays and Fridays, premium on Mondays. So if its like her station, that premium is 6 days old.

Still shouldnt make a huge difference but I dont doubt anything.

I highly doubt the new gas would cause that..maybe you had old gas in the car from sitting so long? Keep driving it and see what happens. I had a really weird occurance on my old v6, it was even stock at the time. Each time I would get gas i'd drive it a couple miles and it would die on me. I'd start it back up and it would be completely fine, it did that for a couple months and then it never did it again

That's very odd. You could easily check your fuel pressure and see if it's low...

I'm going to have to check it out this week. Just took it for another spin cause it seemed so odd.. Wife was with me this time, even she could tell the exhaust tone was off, running SUPER rich and def down on power.. I know I have a knock sensor giving me issues, but I'm not throwing any codes... I've always put Shell gas in it, they are one of the few in town with 93 octane, the rest are 92.. Going to pull plugs tomorrow, see what they look like, change fuel filter.. It's just weird, cause it was running GREAT until I filled it.. I noticed the difference within minutes of filling up..

Only other thing I did yesterday was hook up the shiftlite.. I used the same wires as my previous shiftlite when I hooked it up.. But just for shits and giggles going to unhook it tonight and see if things go back to normal.

Doubt it's the pump if it's running rich.

Sounds like bad gas to me...call the station to see if they had any complaints.

I worked at a gas station back in the late 70's and when the tankers dumped the new gas it would stir up the water in the in ground tanks. If you were filling your car up right after a tanker dumped new fuel then it is possible to get some water in your gas tank.
All in ground fuel storage tanks have some amount of water (condensation) in them.
We use to check the amount of water in the tank every so often. There is more water in the tank in the winter time than in the summer.
So, what I tell everbody is "DO NOT FILL YOU CAR WITH GAS WHILE A TANKER IS UNLOADING FUEL". Go to another station if they are dumping fuel at that station! It will stir up the water in the holding tank.

Does that station sell "E-85" fuel?
If they do there is alwalys the possibility that they could have dumped E-85 fuel in the wrong tank
                        (premium 93 octane tank)?
E-85 uses a lot more fuel when your engine is running compared to gasoline.
If your engine normally runs at 14.6:1 (idle to part throttle) Air/Fuel mixture with gasoline it will run about 9.5:1 - 10.0:1 Air/Fuel mixture with E-85 fuel!
So it will run a lot richer with E-85!
You should probably check with the station where you filled up with last.

If I can get some wires before then.. I am sure the bad wire was causing the knock sensor SES too..
