  • What would cause a bind without hitting anything?

Yes, another steering question. Just got the car back from having the column rebuilt. I'm noticing halfway through a left turn that there's a bind in the wheel. I've managed to get the wheel in the right area while sitting in the driveway, running, and there's a kind of click as it's turned past the bind point.
Not like the chunk sound of, say, a shock or mount, but and audible click, almost seeming to come from the rack or link.
Thing is, the link isn't hitting the headers or the body.
It's also having kind of a problem with a slow return.
I watched as the wheel was turned and I didn't notice any movement from the mounts at all.

Any steering guys out there that would know?

I dont know about the clunk/stiff spot. But the slow return is usally caused by not enough caster IIRC. Its been a while since I was in the under car biz. Hope this helps, Eric L

I think what I'll do also this weekend is remove the steering joint from the shaft and make sure that the bind is from the column or not.

Could be wrong, but I'll bet it's the intermediate shaft. Looks like a mini drive shalf. Try greasing the slip spline real good.
