Hey fellas,

Changing my oil for the second time in my SS... is there an exact amount that will work? AMSOIL.com says 5.5 Qts with the oil filter(small one) but last time had to put it at 6 to get it to the right level.

kinda like my ION ... says 6 qts in the book... but i've always had to put 7qts after about 10 miles of driving... big pan for a 2.0 liter 4 banger... lol

6qts on the nose. Don't even bother putting 5.5qts. You'll just end up putting another .5 in later.

I always buy 6-7qts. Rather have extra that I can use between oil changes for the mysterious LT1 disappearing oil.

LS1 is 6-6.5 qts.

The dipstick is not always properly marked. It also depends on how you park your car when you check your oil level. It should sit about 5 minutes after the engine stops before you check the oil level. After adding all your oil minus one quart run the engine then shut it off and let it sit for 5 minutes. Now check the level. It should be at the one quart low level on the stick. If it is not remark the dipstick with the edge of a file. Now add your last quart of oil and do the same thing. Then mark the dipstick again at the full level. We do this on all our Engines that we test at work on the dyno.
