  • car wont start because of puddle!

its not my car but my moms 99 crown vic stalled driving during that storm we had a few days back and hasnt started since, i know the battery is alright, it cranks and sounds like it wants to start, but doesnt quite get there. do you think it would be the spark plugs? i would say it is but they are so high up that it doesnt make sense how water got all the way up there! any help would be greatly appreciated because this is her work car and she has to take the bus until it gets fixed lol

$10 says its the fuel pump reset. Open the trunk and off the side you will see a red button (might have to peel back the carpet some). Push it and it will fire right up.

I agree with Tom. Make sure your check to see if the fuel pump is coming on. Have someone turn the ignition key to the "RUN" position while you listen back at the fuel tank. The fuel pump should come on for 2 seconds and then turn off.
If the fuel pump is coming on then it could be one of several different problems.
What do you consider a puddle of water?
1 inch, 6 inches, 1 foot, 2 foot of water?
There are relays under the hood that could have got wet if it was a lot of water.
One of the relays is a fuel pump relay, One of them is a PCM relay. They are not always completey water proof.
Remove the air filter and make sure it was not saturated with water. Then look at the mass air flow meter to make sure it was not contaminated. The mass air flow meter can be cleaned with brake cleaner or you can buy Mass Air Flow meter cleaner from CRC. Those engines have Coil on plugs. These coils can go bad if they get really wet on a hot engine. Also the coil spark plug boots can ground out if they get real wet causing the spark to jump arcoss the terminal at the boot to ground on the head if they get real wet.

If it is getting fuel, might wanna pull the plugs an make sure she didn't suck up any water, h2o in the cylnders will definately cause it not to run, my buddy did that last year, almost hydrolocked rge motor so you wanna be careful cranking it if there is
