  • i need some help bad!!!!!!!!!!

Ok I have a 1984 pontiac firebird with a 2.8 v6 I took it to the shop and they said one of the cilinders had lower comp then the rest and fuel leaks into the cilinder so I have to change the spark in that cilinder every so offten but now the car after it runs for a while will idle so low and cut off and it does not happen all the time but when it happens a lot it is hard to drive it is also a stick shift I have changed the fuel pump wires plugs distrabautar cap and I am still having this problem any one know what I should do I am gonna pull my hair out

    Sounds like a valve leak.

Well, if you are having a low compression problem, changing fuel pumps, distributors, etc., isn't going to fix the root problem. You probably have a bad seal or gasket somewhere. Do you see any blue smoke out of the exhaust on cold startup? Could be a fried piston ring, but I would look into the cheaper possibilities first. Any idea which cylinder has the low compression problem? I personally think it's a valvetrain problem, that's what I would look into first, but we need a better description of the symptoms. Any strange smells? Is there any cross-contamination in your fluids?

There are no funny smells I already know there is a leaky value but it shuts off some times mostly at idle at a stoplight or crusing in nutral it leaks oil but I always check the oil there seems to be no contaminations

Is the leaking valve on the same cylinder that has the low compression issue? If the valves aren't sealing properly, they will cause the cylinder to lose compression.

too much fuel will wash the cylinder and cause low compression

Sounds like you need a valve job and maybe more
