  • gtp stalls after warming up

posting this for my cousin. he rercently purchased a 99 gtp with 180 k on the clock. the guy said the car would stall on occasion while driving. he would pull over and start the car right back up and take off not having any more issues for a day or two. sometimes it would happen numerous times a day and sometimes you could go for a week without it happeneing. he cleaned the iac, maf, and replaced the fuel pump but it still does it. he was told possibly crank angle sensor???? he wants to replace that next but i think its something simpler. the car will fire right up and run perfectly until it gets warm. any ideas? any help would greatly be appreciated.

nope. we even used a program similar to ls1edit? to check sensors. got a bad reading from a temp sensor so we replaced that too

cam or crank sensor maybe acting up. I was going to say O2s but they would do it everytime it went into closed loop but you say this happens at random. So it sounds more like a cam or crank sensor

CKS is on a plastic collar on the right side of the engine (looking @ the pulley) Cam is in almost exact same position but on the left (rear) side Ill try and post some pix in about 15mins or so...

My guess would be CKS/CPS/Ign Module/wiring, bad ground from ign mod or:

            Clogged cat...

The cat issue seems to happen pretty often on hi milage W's

              as promised

              Red is Cam (CPS)
              Green is Crank (CKS)

to replace the CKS, youll need to remove the balancer and the palstic collar (15/16")
the cam you can USUALLY get out w/o remocing anything aside from the belt and water pump pulley (4 x 8mm bolts.. i think they're 8, they may be 6mm)

what do u think about the coil pack. would a coil cause the whole car to shut down for a second? i thought it would just misfire

well yesterday we replaced the dirtiest fuel filter i have ever seen and cut out the catalytic converter. the converter after running for a couple minutes was very hot on the engine side of it, and still touchable at the other end, about 15 inchs away. we thought it was plugged or close to it. took it for a drive, but leaving the gas station he got into the throttle and it stalled again, but started right back up. we found a plug wire that was arching off a metal bracket so nexy we are doing plugs and wires. this gtp will almost be new by the time we are done lol
