I have a 2001 Camaro SS with an automatic transmission. I was at a red light the other day and when I accelerated, it was bogged down and the service engine soon light came on. I shifted the car into 1st and it took off as normal. It seems that when in drive, the car is stuck in third gear. Autozone ran a check and a code popped up identifying a bad shift cylinoid which I believe is located in the valve body. Has anyone else experienced this? Do you know of a good place to have it serviced? I called the local Chevy dealership that does all the work on my vehicles and they estimated $470 for repair. It seems a bit high for draining the fluid, removing the valve body cover and replacing the cylinoid. Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Easy fix!

Call transstar in livonia 1-866-248-9053 (96 service drive just past levan) and order yourself, shift solenoid a and b (same solenoid for both), a filter, and a fiber pan gasket.

Remove the pan and filter.

the shift solenoids are pointing at the trans mount 1 wire clip holds in each solenoid (you'll see when you get the pan off)

Replace both solenoids

replace the filter.

reinstall trans pan .

You just saved yourself a ton of $$$ . Total parts $ approx 50.00

Thanks for the help Mike! After reading your post, it seems pretty simple and should save $400. The shop had quoted 5 hrs at $75 per hour plus parts and fluid.

They should have added udder cream to the list of materials, cause they would be milking it taking that long. Udder cream $2.99 at target.
