  • Audi A4 Questions

    my family just recently picked up a 1998 Audi A4 1.8T quattro. i am just wondering if any of you guy know of any common problems or issues with this car. it has 130,xxx miles

      For a few years, Audi has had some horrible quality control problems, but most of them have happened after your 1998 was new.

      The 98s "only" have 5 recalls on them......none life threatening at least...

        wiper transmission/motor goes out. Trans output shaft seal leaks, thats all the things i can think of now that i have seen more than once.

          gf drives one. I think its actually a 01? Bad wheel bearings. Then the norm brake/rotors. Maintenance on those cars is expensive!! With it being a quattro tires is another issue. They claim you cant change just one tire...it has to be all 4..and it has to be aligned the proper way. So if you get a flat tire driving...i dont believe theres a spare in the car..unless its full size. Even then they claim its not supposed to be driven unless all tires match. So if it ever has to be towed...has to be on a flat bed.

            Should have a full size spare, my buddies does, hes had airbag problems, light randomly on. Aside from that my buddy loves his, 5spd stick, fun car, Id really like one.

                my dad has a audi all road twin turbo sitting next to his 08 corvette zo6 and he hasnt seen any problems with it or else he would have brought it to my shop but i dont work on many audis in my complete auto repair buisness quick car though drove it a few times not a 1.8 tho
