Anybody ever hear of or use Baldwin oil filters? My friend Bret, who helped me find and bring my 2002 vert back from Virginia, says that althought they're primarily for industrial and heavy-duty use, people like Ferarri owners swear by them. They're made in the good ol' U S of A, in Kearney, Nebraska, and they had a size to fit my high-mileage (167K miles and counting) 3.8 V6. Bret decided to gift me about four of them, so I tried one out with today's oil change (Valvoline High-Mileage Engine synthetic blend 10w30, with a quart of Rislone tossed in for an intermittent lifter noise.) So far, all I can report is that the filter is red in color, and it doesn't leak!
If anyone else is interested, I can report back in about 3,000 miles -- maybe at 1,500 because I've been doing filter changes about halfway through an oil change cycle, in case the Rislone is cleaning dirt out of the engine.
