  • rpm jumps while cruising

Issue with my gtp. While cruising down the highway(usually abt 2000 rpm) My car jumps rpm. I have a steady throttle position running at 2000 rpm and it will jump to 2300-2400 and then back down. It does it a few times in a row. throttle position doesnt change. It hap;pened at 3000 today as well.

    Any ideas?

It sounds like you have a trans problem to me. Does it feel like its going down a gear or just slipping? Because at those speeds the converter should be locked up thus preventing the trans from doing any "normal" slipping.

did it seem like your car down shifted. usually when your rpm's jump like that is when your car down shifts.
but i wouldn't trust my word. im just throwing ideas of what it could be.

It would either be the lock up solenoid or just a slipping trans or lock up clutch in the converter. Eric L

Thats a good one larry. Unlocking the converter. Or drive down the road with the cruise set and see if it kicks off the cruise. Eric L

Well the problem is that the converter is kicking out of lockup.

The real reason can lie in any sensor, wire, or calibration that tells it to kick out. Then there are the potential mechanical reasons, but i would look into the easy ones first.
