  • LS1 Poly Motor Mounts

Hey guys, I'm considering getting some poly motor mounts for my TA. Has anyone with an LS1 done this? From what I've gathered it seems that I will have to remove my headers/ORY to get at them? I haven't put the car up and taken a look yet, but I wanted to hear some of your inputs first.

The main reason that I want to do poly mounts is because under a certain amount of throttle my headers/ORY, not sure which, rattle on something, I have tried clearancing anywhere I can so I have about hit a wall in that regard. I have a special tunnel brace/ driveshaft loop made for longtubes, so I know its not hitting there. Anyone have any experience with poly mounts? Is the engine vibration inside the car pretty bad after installing these? I want to get rid of the rattle, but if the vibration is going to annoy me, then thats no good either and I'll just have to buy a new header setup.

Any info/opinions/install tips would be appreciated. Thanks!

I have poly mounts, but did them before the engine went in so I have no idea what it takes to put them in. But I dont think my anything hits underneath the car.

I didn't really notice much of any interior noise from my poly mounts and the motor looks rock solid now, I say go for it.

did you go with prothane? Did you get a tranny one as well? I figure if I'm going to do it, I mine as well do them all the first time right? Just wish I would have done this before putting the headers back on, I hear its a lot easier that way.

I have the Prothane ones on my car. The motor and trans mount. I don’t notice any big vibrations going down the road. One thing I did notice is that the engine does not move, they make everything tight. However the car at idle likes to shake, which isn’t all bad. I would say go for it.

thats exactly what I'm going for. I have ZERO rattles when the car is idling, even when I rev it in park. Its when I start going down the road and the engine torques under specific throttle that I have it. If I take off gently.. no rattles. If the engine isn't moving, I'm thinking the problem will be solved

I didn't notice any increased vibrations.
if your worried just put the prothane on the drivers side.
The drivers side only fixed all my y-pipe banging. then the first time I had the engine out I installed the pass

Thanks for the tip, I'm pretty sure the banging is on the drivers side. I'll probably go that route and save a lot of time.

I did go with prothane but I did them when the motor was out, I do not have the trans mount thought as I have heard both tend to make some more rattling than normal.

When I was doing my headers I realized how easy it would be to get at them with the exhaust out of the way but I could probably still do it with them in the way, it'd just be a lot harder. Oh yeah, and I'm really skinny too...5'10" and 134lbs. Raceweight.

My motor mounts and transmount are shot. I need to get new ones in the spring.

I did Poly mounts because my periodic aggressive driving style failed the original rubber ones. The drivers side mount was so bad it would let the engine torque over and eventually tore the trans mount in half and broke the Catback intermediatre pipe right where it clamps on the Y pipe.
When I removed the the old mount and seperated the clam shells the rubber just fell on the ground.
I only did the drivers side and it took about 5 Hrs and I still have stock manifolds (which aren't really in the way). Getting it out wasn't real bad but putting the single long bolt through took the longest time. Actually had to use a jack under the engine and a pry bar under the trans tailshaft to aid in manuevering the bolt through.
I have Prothane motor mounts (Left only) and an Energy Suspension Trans mount (no preload plate and the nubs ground flat) and it almost feels like stock. Removing the nubs and not using the preload plate on the trans mount had a huge effect on reducing the vibration.

Also keep in mind that the poly mounts will wear in and any vibrations will soften up over time.

Thanks for all the input fellas. I ordered my mounts from Summit yesterday and got them today. Now I just have to find time to install them. I found this: http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/genera...ion-motor.html on ls1tech. I'm going to go ahead and swap both mounts out. You guys have any further tips? I'll have the luxury of having the car up on a lift in the shop, that should help.

My dad and I installed them tonight. All in all the mounts went in pretty easily. We didnt really follow the directions I saw online we just used our best judgement. The only thing we had to take off was the starter. Some people talk about removing the alternator, headers, ac compressor system etc.. I have to say once again I love having a car from GA, everything came off really smoothly with obviously no rust. We started around 7 and took our time and got done around 11. Thankfully we used a 2 post lift in our shop and a tranny jack to jack up the motor, I cannot imagine trying to do that job on my back, forget that. the hardest part was gettin the big bolt out because we left the accessories on, but after that it all went good. My rubber engine mounts looked pretty much new yet lol.

Anyway the whole reason for them was to solve a pesky header or ypipe rattle i was having.. well... it worked!!!! I have ZERO rattles, I dont notice any more vibration in the car either with the new poly mounts. I'm a big fan and HIGHLY reccommend them to anyone doing a header swap.
