  • Trans won't come out?!?

I am in process of changing the clutch on my 95 Z28. I will have a knowledgeable tech help me re-install everything but I wanted to get it disassembled and get the flywheel resurfaced first. I got the torque arm, driveshaft, crossmembers, and connectors out of the way. I took all bolts out holding the trans to the bellhousing and have a trans jack trying to slide the trans back.

The problem I am having is that the trans slides back about an inch and gets hung up by the clutch fork. It won't come off of the throw bearing. How is this supposed to come apart?

    Thanks,

You have to remove the cylinder off the side of the trans (1/2" socket) and then remove the cylinder and the cover.
That will expose the clutch fork then you just give it a tug and it will pop right off.

pull down on the end of the fork where the slave goes. that should pop the detent off the pivot

I removed the two nuts, slave and bracket. I though the trans would just slide back with a tug but that fork is attatched to the trans and hooked on the bearing (which seems to be attached to the clutch).

1BADAIR, when you say down are you talking straight twards the ground (which would twist the forked end up)? The two studs are still sticking out where the slave was but I can try using the little bit of wiggle room between the two.

Nevermind, I got it out. I was fighting with that stupid thing for 20 minutes this morning. I went back to it at lunch time and the clutch fork fell right out of the way. I don't know why it was sticking in there earlier. Thanks for the help!
