  • Anyone familiar with FreeScan?

Anyone familiar with it? When I went around the block yesterday with FreeScan logging it never registered a speed. Now, I understand the speedometer in the gauge cluster doesn't work because the v6 to v8 signal is different. Does FreeScan get the signal from the gauge cluster to register speed or does the PCM truly have no idea what speed I'm going?

you know i really wish i could answer your question here, but as i recall ive never used Freescan to log speed before...not really a parameter I care about on a manual.

I'll check my logs later but I gotta reboot to windows to see them.

Let me know what you find - I'm sure you have speed on yours but it's more a question of where does the FreeScan app get the speed from.

Sound like you're about to have the fun my dad and I had yesterday trying to figure out why the OBD port wasn't working. I think essentially we needed 12+ power, ground, the mode select/enable wire, and the data serial wire.

I actually think it's the old crappy laptop I have

I can flash my SES light just fine so the port is working and linking with the ECM.
Maybe I need a different laptop

Ah, good call then. Crappy laptop is easier to replace/fix than the wiring.

I've used FreeScan and DataMaster - both free. DataMaster will only let you record 20 recordings but IMHO it's far better than FreeScan.
