  • Carb Specs??

OK, maybe Jeff or some other really knowledgeable people can shed some light on this.

When my brother in law bought his 1970 Chevelle SS 454. There was a carb that came with the car.

My brother in law and I have no clue about this one.

I was going to google it but I will try here first.

I was told it was worth some money, but once again, I have NO clue.

So we didn't know whether to hold onto it or toss it out.

All it says is GM Rochester 4 jet.

I tried looking for part #'s but could not find anything.

There are some #'s on the butterflies that open and close.

Just wondered if anyone knew anything about them.

All carburetors should be tossed out....duh

You might want to take some pics of it and post them up.

Interesting...4-Jet Rochesters are the one of the early introductions of a 4 barrel carb into GM's lineup (it certainly did not come on your BIL's Chevelle) and they used them on everything.

I think they started making them in 1952 (?) and stopped in 67 (?)...it's essentially two 2-barrel carbs in the same housing.

P/Ns could be tough to come by as they were on a aluminum tag that falls off over the years.

Check to see if it has an aluminum throttle body...allegedly those were used on several Buicks and Pontiacs in the mid 60s...that would probably be the only one worth any serious money (eBay says the regular ones are going for $15-30 for parts, $60-90 for re-builders, and $200-300 for rebuilt ones)...they're supposed to be a very complex design internally...the much simpler Quadrajet replaced this one...

        Thanks!
I'm sorry I did not make it clear. Is did not come on the 454 motor. It was tossed in the trunk with a lot of different parts.

And I don't think it has the aluminum throttle body. We were looking at it last night.

        LOL James...too funny!

Mayge we will toss it on Ebay for a few bucks.

Thanks for shedding some light on the carb for me.
